A truly lovely poem Jerry. So sad the blind destruction of what really matters in our world.
The micro-world of leaves on trees, miraculously growing on hard wooden branches getting in an equally miraculous way their water and food from deep beneath. And then we look at another leave and another, the branch and the tree and suddenly we wake up to the cruelty of humans selfishly ending the miracle Excellent poem
the connection of nature and man....your wonderful poem has it....we are but like trees....
Yes, man thinks he is better at making beautiful picturesque views and landscapes, when he is in fact the destroyer of all that is good, and beautiful through his misguided thoughts and greed. Man is ignorant to the nth degree! Just had a thought - so far haven't seen any poets on PH that are landscapers, have you? RoseAnn
Yes, stupid man cuts down everything that is natural and free, He IS as Stupid as he can be! ! ! Lovely thoughts and poem, nice meeting you this way. S. Woof PS I think that I shall never see.... is one of my favorite poem, I can't think of the name now, excuse me.

Jerry Hughes, Thank you! ! Your poem is beautiful and I can feel every word you speak, shall I say your heart and your soul, Oh how I see that leaf and as a matter of fact, just not to long ago I picked one up, small, beautiful yellow in color, sitting alone on the ground wanting me to touch it and I saw all the perfect lines it had its life source, like a living heart. Thank you so much for this sublime poem. God Bless You and Keep You! Love and Light! [3 Kasia
Poem teaches some interesting things about the leaf - a simple, everyday item, so commonly ignored.
Bravo Jerry. A lovely piece..(Try The Dryad When you have a spare minute.Best regards Sally x
A nice poem.I like the line ' A single leaf makes its own history', for every man is distinct from others.
I cry with your great poem of Humanity..............You are a great person who grabs the nature like a Mother grabs her feeble child..................-a decaying leaf writes-
You bring to mind Joyce Kilmer's poem that I loved at school....yes I agree with Patti...the inventor of chainsaws needs to be in chains....beautiful poem
Awesome! The last two lines really caught my attention. Throughout its life human benefitted from it. This poem is a wake up call for us to give more value not just for trees but the nature. Thanks! best regards, jdh
Hey Jerry I don't have to tell you how much I love nature. This is an amazing poem. We gotta find that guy who invented chainsaws I tell ya.
Sir, We all say the same thing but the beauty lies in how you say it. You say it sweetly and silently that melts into our being. Everything in Nature, even the smallest leaf, is meant for others. It is the selfish and egoist man alone who doesn't learn lessons from it. On the other side, he is bent to reverse the creation to his own interest fogetting self annihilation. Your last two lines sum up everything and have a message for the good of mankind, Throughout it's life it made no enemy, yet, men come with chainsaws to fell the parent tree. But how many of us care for it! ! ! ! ! We are destroying our forests, our life source unscrupulously. Warm regards. CP
Very well done, Jerry. Man sometimes is blind to his own destruction. You would probably like my (almost) newest poem: O NIDO (THE NEST) . It's in Portuguese but has the English translation with it.
