A Law Divided Against Itself Poem by Mary Champion

A Law Divided Against Itself

Innocence is insufficient
for people who are poor.
But, no matter how delinquent,
it is not a requirement
for those above the law.

If you have friends in high places,
then you need fear no more,
for the rich hold all the aces.
Their power will be the basis
on which, you can be sure -
guilt or innocence
is an irrelevance.
