I wandered into a hollow,
Where music shimmered like moonlight,
Dancers twirling in joy and laughter,
A chorus of happiness spilling into the air.
"Why do they dance together? "
I whispered, curiosity afloat.
Suddenly, the sound stirred the dead beside me,
Phantoms trembling in rhythm,
And I—once ragged, now in Sunday finery—
Felt the pulse of this enchanted day.
The lyrics of Father Xmas floated,
A man's voice rising:
"This is the day the Lord has made! "
The sound cracked the earth with light,
And my heart, alight, danced in unison.
Every spirit, living and ethereal, celebrated,
Bound in joy beyond time and place.
Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year,
To all who hear the music of wonder.
