A Heart's Reckoning
I
Some hearts, though yearning for kindness, falter at its gate.
Unable to repay the gift, their hands remain too late.
Before you pour your goodness like a river's gentle flow,
Consider the recipient's heart, and the kindness that it may know.
I
For sharing your light with those who cannot see,
May lead to shadows of regret and a heart that's weary.
The wrong recipient may turn your gift to pain,
Leaving you with sorrow and a heart in vain.
III
So, choose wisely, to whom you give your heart,
For kindness, like a boomerang, may return to its start.
And though it's noble to give, it's wise to know,
The heart that receives it, and the love that it may show.
