I really Thank you, Soran, for pointing out the lines that reached out to touch you- this is helpful to me. At first glance one could be deceived into thinking that the world of birds is a charming Walt Disney movie of charming tweets and twitters! ! !
Frankly, this poem is full of connotations, this poem here sheds the light on the wrestle of life, between the strong evil and the good weak (as it has been symbolised) , but the position of our lovely merciful poet is always stay beside the oppressed one, we are proud of you Susan, be happy, you are so good..congratulation
when the black-hearted crows attack their nests hidden in the depths of my evergreen tree. ….
broom in hand to scare those crows away but my sparrows have sent them packing, ....those wee little gangbangers on wings.
I love this poem of yours, Susan dear, as I have been a birdwatcher throughout my childhood. Dwelling under a thatched roof in a remote village, I have been a co-dweller with them. Sparrows love to live in such places in our rural India. I feel home and within this poem, so delicately written. Subhas
What a charming comment to read, Subhas. It gives depth to who you are and I love the word to describe you and the birds- -being a co-dweller with them. That just charms the heck out of me! ! ! I can certainly see now how you would both feel so at home with this poem and inside with this poem. I thank you, kind sir
Susan, i just came upon this beautiful poem of yours - A heart full of sparrows - It is a wonderful poem, Susan. May i quote: I have a heart full of sparrows hopscotching in my evergreen they chirp and they twitter and boy do they dither- they give magic to my every day. Enjoyed the flow of the poem. A classic poem on the sparrows.
Thank you Geeta! I am so pleased that my poem appealed to that gentle soul of yours. It is a joy to find kindred spirits so many thousands of, miles away- -may we all bond over those lovely little brown sparrows! ! !
Starkly portrayed. Holds up beautifully- -literally and metaphorically. Amazing work! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ] forgot to add this to post about who wrote this. definitely nap time

I know your heart is full of sparrows, so also mine. I too loves sparrows and their chirping, hopscotching, carrying twigs, leaves, straw, and grass and making nests. Dear madam, you have so nicely inscribed about sparrows and their fighting with the crows and the cooperation of yours with broom in hand. It is really a delightful poem having haunting expression. I love this poem with wee sparrows in it.
Isn't it wonderful how people who have never met, grew up in different cultures can still enjoy the simple things in life like the birds that fly our skies? Thank you for telling me of your love of wee sparrows- it's amazing how many people are fond of the small, prolific, rather drab in color birds! ! !
My heart melts with this delightful poem. I love the image of the little ones shopping and carrying their booty back one beak at a time and exploding from their green depths in pursuit of attacking crows. Gangbangers on wings...love it.
It would appear you too are a lover of birds, I think most of us poets are. There is something very appealing about their flight, their wings, their feathers, their song, their warnings, their nesting forages.... thank you for noting what lines particularly spoke to you. That's a huge help to me. Blessings shower down on you
It's a profound piece of poetry, beautiful and insightful. Thanks for sharing Susan.
Susan Williams, I too love wildlife and the our of doors. In veiwing them through binoculars they are seen to be quite lethal and can hold their own in a jam! You really brought to light the connection with a natural window of the interaction between them- sparrows and crows. It is neat to glimpse into the life of others this way. Your window's message was so welcome to me.................Blessings to you. kathy
Watching these perhaps the least of birds gives me huge insight into the words that that tell us God cares about them and has created a world that can feed them and spirits that are brave and hardy and they do not fall without Him knowing.
Blessings to you too, Kathy! ! ! ! [computer is turning into sludge but I will try to get it to your poems so I can read one]
Another delightful glimpse of life through Susan's picture window. And this time you remind us through your vivid imagery that our sometimes pacific view of nature is askew, that nature is inherently about competition, and striving, and taking by force. Interesting and ironic, how we as apex predators often feel tugged to root for the little guys out there in this often cruel existence. Lovely piece, dear, and thanks for sharing the view. :)
Thank you, Seamus. I get a kick out of watching the critters- - the kitten who takes on a big big dog and sends it scurrying to the nearest exit- - the canary who bites the hand that feeds him- - the mother doe who fights off the coyote who is after its baby- -the horse who still comes to the owner who mistreats him- - what is it about people who root for the underdog- sometimes the big guy should win or he'll die off and eventually all the big guys die out- -like what kind of life doesn't have cougars prowling in the trees behind our houses? But I still dislike the crows for bulling the little guys. Thank you for enjoying the view from my window!
Them little birds are packing heat! They bully my bluebirds which are greenpeace wimps, but I love them even though they are cowards, , , , , , yes, bravo for those grey little sparrows! ! ! Lovely humorous poem, worthy of a 10! ! !
Bill, you make me wish you had written this poem! ! ! ! Packing heat! ! ! ! Greenpeace wings! ! ! ! Thank you for liking it- -I think you are very generous! ! !
Susan, another great work. For some reason, this reminds me of Poe. He, too, often observed that small and innocent doesn't mean weak. A great work.
Thank you for reading and complimenting. I always thought of sparrows as a meek little bird until I saw them take after much bigger birds- - whoa- -do not mess with parents!
Another grand poem that stand shoulder to shoulder with your rain poem on which I commented earlier in the day. I too am a bird-watcher from childhood. A definite 10 for this.
Thank you so much for reading my works and commenting in such a supporting manner about them. I must admit that I did not realize birds were such a huge part of my life until I started writing poems and found the birds invading most of my poems or taking center place in some of them. I have always enjoyed them, watched them when they came into my yard, or when they flew about their business when I went riding.... but I just never realized until recently how barren earthly life would be without them. Thank you for the 10! ! ! ! ! !
Such a cute write Susan.... I see all these through your eyes.... A pack of sparrows going out 'shopping', coming back with twigs and dry leaves and building their nests amid the foliage of the evergreen. Then a murder of crows coming to attack them and the sparrows raising lethal threats, when you intervene with a broom to drive the intruders away.....! I can so well relate to this poem as I too am an avid watcher of birds and their nests! I invite you to read my poem An Epilogue to a Prologue, narrating more or less a similar scene! A sure 10
I cannot imagine a day without a bird cheering me up.... with a song.... with a hopping gait across my lawn... with the way a mourning dove can hover... a killdeer dragging its wing to guide me away from her nest... Thank you so much for the 10 and I am on my way to read An Epilogue to a Prologue which has got to be the most intriguing title ever!
How the sparrows thwart the invasion of crows gives the reader a lot of thrill n hope. These little fellows show great strength n character. We humans can learn a lot from them. A thoroughly intriguing write.
It is amazing, isn't it? They aren't even half the size of a crow but they attack with a ferocity that means business. The desire and mandate that parents have to protect their children against all odds gives them this courage. Gotta love those little guys! Thanks for reading and enjoying, Nosheen!
Soran! ! ! Thank you for the big fat 10 and especially the treasured position on your fav list! ! !
