A Hardly-Dare-Hope Shade Of Violet Poem by Denis Mair

A Hardly-Dare-Hope Shade Of Violet

Rating: 4.8

(for Natali Wienstein's painting on black canvas, posted August 5th)
.....................
This color is called 'hardly-dare-hope' violet,

because you hope with all your heart ❤️ that such twilight will last;

meanwhile the sunny light that comes through is lemonade for the eyes.

Graphite was prejudged to be gloomy, but a hand stirred by happiness

can turn gritty expressionist outlines into a bouquet,

especially in timeworn mineral colors.

The light falling on a peripheral surface of the room is prepared...

just in case a roving eye wants to rest here:

let it linger on this contest

of twilight and sunniness sedimented in flowers.

Oh, how I wish to see this painting at close range. So beautifully depicted. It expresses in brilliant detail how this painting could arrest a keen eye. A very engaging write. To my favorites.
