@Joe Breunig: rather naive, sir. The rich grow fat on government contracts. The condition of the poor depends on the attitude government takes. They trot out lots of lies To praise free enterprise. But all they really do Is steal from me and you. They give the state the blame, A rich rogue's lying game. No end to their demands When power's in their hands. The taxman grabs our dosh And gives it to the posh, Through contracts that are bent. We wonder where it went.

Friend! you are right. a very realistic poem. It's the life that poverty gave to us the life the government won't help us to get out of

Out of the frying pan into the fire springs to mind. We in the UK do not seem to have politicians who are capable of running our country for anything other than their own aims and ambitions.

The grave - such a wonderful place No tax men or gangsters come calling Even If they do, they leave in such a haste Absolute peace be it sunny or snow falling The grave, the grave oh such a wonderful place..... (Good short poem sir - welcome to my page too)

I've just about given up on hope Dave, and as for a new government - they're all the same, aren't they? !

This poem is applicable to many governments in many countries...what should i call it? a mild satire, or a wild one? but it is true!

Even the current government is an elected one. Is there any way the government may be made to listen to the citizens? A new government may have new problems which we do not know. I am only suggesting as another thought. The poem definitely brings the problem to attention. Thank you.

Many governments are useless regarding the working man...I believe Sweden look after their retired better than any place on the planet...In the UK anyone with pots of cash can still get the pension...Still the country is lovely but OZ has better sunshine cheers Dave

People are truly suffering from this dreadful tax. Not only rent arrears but council tax arrears too, a double whammy
