They called her a goddess but was that what she really wanted to be?
Her story is more than her crown and more that what our eyes can see.
Perfect and elegant at all time, no mistakes can she commit,
She was not even allowed to be free of expectations even though she hated it.
Her father's reputation was in her hand, a suitable groom she had to find,
She couldn't fail herself or even be left behind.
Sit with your back straight! Don't speak back! This is basic etiquette,
She was limited by the chains that being a 'goddess 'set.
She doesn't need to smile for all, she can have bad days too,
Her pain is hidden nobody else can know, her words can't even reach you.
A title that became a burden for her and her dreams dear,
It was more of a punishment than a praise for her.
After all her happiness and freedom getting huge losses,
She had finally became a perfect, poised Godess.

A direct hit at the male-chauvinistic and patriarchal views of the world and the malevolent society. Fantastic poem. All the 5 *s. And added to MyFavourites
