And conquer rage by giving love for hate. I have some issues with that verse, maybe I don not thoroughly comprehend it. It takes a lot to conquer rage, I would, however, abandon hate for love. Hate is a detrimental instrument.
I am reminded of an old common wisdom, if you aren’t a liberal when you’re young, you have no heart, but if you aren’t a middle-aged conservative, you have no head. This poem seems penned by a middle-aged conservative. The disparagement of youth in the fourth line coupled with the implied gathering of time and age that certain of the other phrases in the poem suggest make me think that the author had advanced in years when he wrote this. His sentiments are, for the most part, admirable. But they are not exactly generous. I think the tone is more the reckonings of an old man who sees the horizon approaching ahead than it is of one who feels the energy and hope of the generations following him who ultimately are the future. Not a bad poem by any means, just more judgemental than hopeful the way it reads to me.
Conquer rage by giving love for hate. Indeed, noble thoughts. Thanks for sharing it here.
An inspiring piece of writing that makes us contemplate our lives.
a nice poem about the thoughts of doing some good in the world before it is to late?
