God Willing the Italians always say
Praying for the blissful and blessed day
A dio placendo they are truly free
For the blind can never see.
God Willing everything goes right
Praying late in the dark of night
They are spared from hardship
Not wanting to tolerate the house a tip.
God Willing the economy functions
God Willing Billy doesn't have to play the blues
Hoping everyone finds permanent work
Hoping Sally doesn't have to play the blues.
God Willing the radio is shut off at night
The nighttime sleep deep and peaceful
No worries about paying the bills
Work done serving the public behind the tills.
God Willing the morning passes quickly
Hoping all the chores are done
As long as there is the bright morning sun
Working hard and getting everything done.
God Willing the sky shines a rainbow
A beacon of hope and honour
Showing everyone their miracle existence
Hope a beautiful life continues with excitement.
God Willing the children are chosen to be free
Praying they are not blind and can always see
Children future adults: boisterous boys and gorgeous girls
The wonderful and adventurous children precious to the world.
God Willing the neighbours help out Billy and Sally
Food stocks running low: too low to buy in abundance
Food prices too high to prevent rickets
Nutrient deficiency causing children harm.
God Willing Billy and Sally celebrate at their party
Knowing they've survived hardship
May they take care of their children
And may they live in luxurious accommodation.
