A Decade Ago (Maybe It Was A Year) Poem by Katherine Trovida

A Decade Ago (Maybe It Was A Year)

A decade ago (maybe it was a year)

The name of Jesus, drew near
The name was covered in tar
Even though letters cannot contradict themselves
These letters did, because:
The name was passed
From man to man, and
We changed it, into something
We could hand off or put down

A year ago (I later learned it was just and hour)

I set out, to see
Why I seldom found this name
I stopped to study, graduate, and work

An hour ago (now)

I worked and saw
The name of Jesus
Absorb into the hands of man
I saw inseparable letters
when spoken, keep snares
from our feet, and shield our
Backs from stones
And people, draw near
The Name, and the Name
Set them out, to move quickly
