A Day Against You Poem by Doreenda Nikoi Kotei

A Day Against You

Nobody wishes for a bad day,
But we have a fair share of it all the same,
When a day is not for you,
You feel it right when you wake up,
Your alarm won't ring,
Your car wouldn't start,
You get late for work,
You skip breakfast to catch up with work,
You get to work before realising that you've lost a button on your shirt,
Your supervisor will give you more tasks than before,
You give the worst presentation ever,
You get the wrong order for lunch,
You wear the wierdest look ever,
Your favourite team loses its final match,
Your birthday passes without anyone wishing you,
Your girlfriend is too busy to check up on you,
You become frustrated and moody all day,
Your plans for vacation is cancelled,
You get notifications on unnecessary deductions from your bank account,
You have more emails to read and reply to with urgency,
You miss an appointment with your doctor,
Your child bullies another kid and you're summoned to the school,
Your pastor calls to remind you of tolerance and self-control,
You get beaten my the rains because you forgot to take your umbrella,
You overspeed and the police gives you a ticket,
The traffic light delays in turning green,
The next car in front of you moves like a tortoise,
You join long winding queue at the grocery store,
You sit in heavy traffic jams before you get home,
You get so stressed out to greet anyone at home,
You are so worn out to have dinner,
And your cat looks at you curiously and you drive it away,
You tidy up your room before you catch some sleep,
The only question you ask will be: Oh God, why me?
