A Dance (Observed) Poem by Gracie Hemstreet

A Dance (Observed)

Quick
Write your name in the guest book
So they know you've been
Inside this room
This room so alive and pulsing
It makes you feel like
The energy is pulling you in
Like some magnetic force of gaiety
Quick
Join the dance
So they know you're not
Outside the circles
The circles of friends that gather here
To laugh and talk and dance
But you know you don't belong
Because even though
You are surrounded by so many people
You still feel
Alone
