A Crown Without A King Poem by Robert Hilary

A Crown Without A King

A Crown without a King
Rich and wealthy, yet ragged, and poor.
bound to silence, forever more.
it governs the people,
yet it holds, no rule.
its thoughts are bitter,
its words, are cruel.
a crown, without a king.
it lies forgotten, since days, of old.
it wields of body, but not a soul.
its eyes are open,
yet it cannot see,
a crown, without a king.
though great in numbers.
it is frail, and weak.
consumed and corrupted
by lies, and deceit.
a clouded future,
no passion, no purpose.
lost in the darkness,
a crown, without a king.
