I love the contrasts that you use to describe the sequence of events 'they suffered a terrace on east eighty-eighth ', I'm not the best of reading into things but I get is the sence that your describing the bipolar effects of marriage being something that is secure but which is also a prison, a gilded prison. That last bit about 'theres was peerless' is just so depressing to think. So much said with few words. Bravo
