A City Of Dreamers Poem by abu tarek md tahsin

A City Of Dreamers

There was a city
of a thousand dreamers
who lived for a day.

A day
when they all will be rich
to live in palaces
of silver and gold.

and these dreamers
they toiled
days and nights
through years and years
until their dreams were fulfilled.

and so happened to be a man
who came wandering through this city
and he sat by many a road
and observed many it's dreamers
scurrying to work and their homes.

until he became certain
that there was not enough gold
not enough gold
neither enough silver
to quench the thirst
of many it's dwellers.

and so he devised a plan
to make them feel good
and started to shout
all through it's city roads

"come here a man!
come here a woman!
a piece of gold
shall buy you a piece in heaven! "

so came a crowd
surrounding him like bees
and the coins of gold and silver
flowed beneath his feet.

when the money was all counted
the stranger handed them
each a packet of dust
and shouted at the top of his lungs

"here is to a life of wealth,
here is to a life in heaven,
a piece of the land
where your palace stands
in heaven! ".

and those dreamers
in that city
had become so blind
to their folly,
that they could not believe
that a palace in heaven
could be but for free.

so they all left home
believing in destiny
which had been rightly bought
for a coin of gold
and a palace in heaven
which now but waited for them
in perpetuity.
