A Christmastime Cornucopia Poem by DM W

A Christmastime Cornucopia

Rating: 5.0

O so many sumptuous and teasing delights
To light up family and friends' curious eyes! :
From hot chestnuts; gooey, golden cauliflower cheese,
To British King Arthur dry - aged sirloin of beef;
Fresh turkeys with crispy, golden skin. What a feast!
Brimming, steaming with the plumpest, juiciest meat
Literally swimming in game- changing gravy
Green beans, carrots, pork, sage and onion stuffing
And all the rest of the most glorious trimmings:
Like brussels sprouts that crunch with every joyous bite
O so many sumptuous and teasing delights:
Goose - fat roast potatoes and sugar baked gammon
King prawn terrines, mackerel, delicate smoked salmon;
Pinky red whole cooked lobsters, oysters, shell fish puffs
And if it's the case, you still haven't had enough
There is always chocolate fudge and reindeer cake,
Or perhaps there are some who will prefer to take
Raspberry cherry trifle; creamy, crumbly cheese platters
Everyone will no doubt become a bit fatter!
Choc brownie liqueur and all - butter mince pies..
Bottles of fine sherry and port, jugs of mulled wine
Or perhaps Christmas pudding that's bursting with vine fruit,
Braeburn apple and nuts, enriched with brandy, stout
And Cognac...delicious by itself, or with double cream,
Brandy, butter whatever it tastes like a dream!
O so many sumptuous and teasing delights
To light up family and friends' curious eyes!

A poem that delivers the true over indulgence of Christmas Day scoff. A poem filled with fun and inventive zest. A poem in the style of Hilaire Belloc and dare I say a touch of Roald Dahl. Five stars and pray tell Dominic what do you consume on Boxing Day!
