A Chance At Redemption Poem by Paul Buttigieg

A Chance At Redemption

You're old now home is where you may die
The years leave you and so do most family and friends
Visits are now so surprising, so rare and unexpected
Is this place where it all ends?

Or some nursing home playing pretends

A lost child, a ward of the state I felt the loss of love early
I cried, waited for years for a Mum and Dad reunion visit
With me, with hugs and kisses forgiveness my only dream
No! This was never going to be it

Love was never something allowed to burn in your heart
You fought the hatred of abandonment as a substitute
Locked away not worthy of anything the anger brewed
The Government owned you, parents and siblings ignored you in that institute

I found education as a pastime, a valuable bore
But I sought a family more, it was never found, never important by them
My heart went so cold and still is, love such a rare emotion
Truth time now that I have no chance of redemption

Life is repeating itself
