This is such a lovely and approachable poem. You convey images in plain language, yet bring out the magic of an ordinary moment in time. While there is a story in this poem, there are also some great lines including the one about the reason why the speaker's child laughed...not because of the funny scene, but because his mother laughed. In that line, I thought about how we teach our children to love life and find happiness and humor. I also enjoyed some of the specific detail that grounded this image in a desert landscape. The speaker evoked creosote and spices so I fully engage more senses as I read. And then in the end, the speaker referred to the Greeks, which brought home the final line. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
