A Cautionary Tale Poem by Kevin Hulme

A Cautionary Tale

I fell in love at 9: am,
On a blue-eyed morning in Lewisham,
She was the sort of girl I'd hope to find,
A beauty of the Grace Kelly kind.
At 12 o'clock noon we went for Tea,
And gazed to each obsessively,
Honey'd talk and touching hands,
And all the ‘Rights' that Love demands.
At a 1: 45 the deed was done
Our fevered Hearts were duly won,
We openly kissed, unabashed and free,
Our Hormonal Scouts on a ‘Jamboree'.
By 4 O'clock all passions said
For fickle youth will have its head,
Our future plans are Joys unbound,
With Children playing in a Nursery found.
It's 5pm and our Home is bought
For fanciful Dreams are playing Sport,
The Creme de la Creme in Notting Hill,
And all decor of style the Rooms to fill.
By 8: 15 She's set to cry
To shapely legs my roving eye,
A few home-truths by a feral tongue,
And so Romance has had its run.
At 9pm She strides away,
My cheek still burns from a girl betrayed,
And ears ring of a ‘Hellish Fate',
To which She makes the Great Escape.
This Banana Skin of life gives thought,
That fools do rush to eagerly Court.
Sage advice to the Witless fed,
From Wisdoms School to Dullards head.
Never more I'll fall in times short frame:
It can start in bliss-
But will end in Shame.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I liked the Idea of having a Love Story take place in a 12 hour time frame, instead of Weeks or Months.
