A Candle Burns Not For Itself Poem by Mohammad Younus

A Candle Burns Not For Itself

A candle burns not for itself,
but to scatter its light into the darkness,
guiding the weary and lost.
Its flicker does not waver for gain,
nor does it seek to preserve its form.

The prophets, like steadfast flames,
exist not for their own sake,
but to kindle dormant hearts—
lamps placed upon the path of return.

They are sent—
messengers carrying the ink of heaven,
love-letters sealed with mercy and truth.
Each word they bear unfolds the veil,
revealing who He is,
who we are,
and the sacred why
engraved within our breath.

They speak of creation's unfolding,
of the hidden and the seen intertwined,
where mountains hum forgotten hymns
and rivers whisper the first Name.
They teach how to walk this world
with feet rooted in stillness,
eyes wide to the script written in stars,
ears tuned to the wind's quiet gospel.

And though their light may seem to vanish,
its glow lingers in every dawn,
calling the soul home—
again and again.
