Well, my daddy left home when I was three,

The anger and rage reflected against the father because he was a drunkard and left nothing worthwhile for the child other than an unflattering name.
This poem highlights the significance of 'name'. The name stays with a person from birth to death. Sometimes a child may become a of jokes because of his unflattering name.He may be bullied and will develop low self esteem.
There are many angles to this poem.I have read somewhere that Shel Silverstein wrote this poem for a judge whose middle name was Sue. It was made into a song and won Grammy award.
I just love this poem, it's like a movie. Nothing more to add
this is a VERY VERY good poem! But the only downside is that it does not have that much rhymes but it does not mean i don't like it.
My brother's name is Hilary and he's tough, belive me! I have always loved this song and never knew Shel Silverstein wrote the lyrics. Wow.
Loveliest worded, excellently presented BUT a too tragic poem, involving a boy's life and future. I like the honesty in this fervent write, but imagine that the son could commit suicide too. Instead he became a man and a poet. I know for sure, his whole inside was suffering constantly till he died. What a father. He left his family because he was a drunkard. Luckily his son was not. Brilliant poem.
This is really a very good story narrated by the great poet. Loved it.
I love it. I would've loved it keener if it ended three stanza' soon. It seems though that the last paragraph completes the story though. Bill and George represent material bonds. This is a humorous slap to literature.
This is bad. It's your fault your dad left.
