He halted in the wind, and - what was that
Far in the maples, pale, but not a ghost?
He stood there bringing March against his thought,
And yet too ready to believe the most.

That last line- -we're kind of like that young beech clinging to its last year’s leaves. We cling to the past and tend to be a little leery of the changes that time brings into our lives. But not matter what we do, life is changing all around us all. We can’t live in the past, it's leaving.

We stood a moment so in a strange world, .........this is the essence of the poem. Beautifully presented.

I wish I could understand this poem a little more. These images are so obscure and so many meanings can be derived from them apart from some good ones that some readers have supplied. Still I liked the poem putting in to it what my thoughts would like to imagine.

A classic another piece of word-art.... But of another world perhaps. Here the time bleeds in every sphere of humanised civilization. Can't communicate with nature this classic way.
