In 1897, three verses of this beautiful poem, starting with the line 'The little eyes that never knew' were set for voice and piano by our great English composer Edward Elgar. The title given by Elgar was 'Roundel', and it was never published. Please contact me if you wish to see a copy of the manuscript. A copy of this has come into my possession as the result of a project, in this anniversary year, to record on CD all the songs of Elgar for male voice and piano.
