717. Bahari Poem by Jaden Knight

717. Bahari

Bahari loves to sit on the rocks at dusk
watching the sun go down
his scales sparkle in the dying rays
as the light matches the fire in his eyes

He combs his long blond hair
with the fighting claw of a fiddler crab
using a shiny pearl as a mirror
carefully studying his reflection

He sings the songs his mother taught him
his voice rising above the roar of the waves
splashing his tail in time to his tune
even as the sea soaks him with spray

Thankfully no human, dwarf or elf sail this way
so he can be there for as long as he needs
his young white skin glowing under the bright full moon
alone with nothing but his thoughts for company

At sun rise Bahari will leave the rocks
and re-join his family under the ocean to rest
for the teenage merman there is no worries
until he reaches marrying age
