698. Ahreddan Poem by Jaden Knight

698. Ahreddan

Outside the ancient port of Artur
is an enormous rock arch on a tiny island
containing the crystal of Siraj the guide
it is said to be one of his last shed tears
before the giant was called to war

On top of the arch stands Ahreddan the watcher
a silver and green dragon from the far south
he sees every ship coming in and out of the harbour
making sure they avoid the hidden rocks

At sunset the crystal awakens and glows
rays of bright light coming from deep within its heart
illuminating the safe path for the boats to take
so Ahreddan can get some rest in his rocky nest

For over three centuries he has watched over the port
saving the lives of thousands in all weathers
he doesn't care who the person is or what they have done
he values human life above almost everything else

They say that even when Ahreddan dies
and his ancient body falls into the sea
his stubborn spirit will return to his home on the rocks
watching over sailors even in death
until the very ending of the world
