615. The Rainbow Waterfall Poem by Jaden Knight

615. The Rainbow Waterfall

The roaring waterfall greets the morning sun
as it peeks up from over the trees
the falling water sparkles as it falls
creating small rainbows over the lake and river far below

The song of the parrots awakens the monkeys
that live on the east side of the ravine
their shrieks of play scatter the birds
rising up in a colourful cloud

The older primates grab the thick green vines
to swing to the forest of banana trees
living on the west side of the ravine
a perilous journey that has claimed many lives
as it is easy to slip and fall into the water below

For the younger ones it is a time to play
as their parents will bring them food to eat
many will practice on the highest branches
for the time when they will need to fend for themselves

At sunset the elephants will come to the lake far below
to drink and bathe in the water
not leaving until darkness falls
going home by the light of the moon
