570. After Valentines Day 2017 Poem by Jaden Knight

570. After Valentines Day 2017

The chocolates have all been eaten
or melted and been thrown away
the roses have already started to wilt
and shed their petals all over the shelf

Your wallet is complaining of being empty
the meal you had is threatening to rise
you wanted to give the best you could
and yet still feel that it was never enough

The bottles of wine are laying empty
a reminder to the evening you had
dripping their remains on the carpet
the stains left will take weeks to shift

As you lay in bed on Valentine's day
and think about the events that occurred
is it really best to show your love with temporary gifts
than to prove it permanently with actions
and you can't help wondering
if any of what happened was really worth it
