547. Charon Poem by Jaden Knight

547. Charon

We all have to meet the ferryman
that is an absolute certainty
how else can we get to our destinations
once the reaper has done his work

Charon stands on the ancient jetty by his vessel
in the tunnels of absolute darkness
waiting patiently for those who have passed
his eyes glow red under his long hooded cloak

He doesn't care about the naughty and nice
only the will of the ultimate judges
listening carefully to the sentencing of his passengers
so they can continue their journey

He drops the kind at the base of the glowing staircase
that are said to lead to their paradise
they thank him warmly before ascending
before being led away by angels

The evil are thrown over the water fall
splashing a long way below into the dawned lake
where the pale demons will start their feast
illuminated by burning pools of flame
their screams can be heard all along the river
but Charon ignores their pitiful cries

We seem to pay no heed to the netherworlds
until our time is almost up
however we may meet our end
we will all have to face the ferryman
