514. Silence Of The Death Camps Poem by Jaden Knight

514. Silence Of The Death Camps

The death camp has long been abandoned
most of the buildings are destroyed or in ruins
not all the crimes that were committed decades before
could be easily hidden in the shrouds of time

Even now the place is dark and terrifying
much of the terror has been retained despite the age
sadness is all around though not all can feel it
much less imagine what is was like for the victims

Skeletons buried in unmarked mass graves
many covered in layers of concrete
an attempt to conceal the atrocities that occurred
but many have been discovered

Bird song is the only joyful thing that this place has
and even that is because the avians don't know
if they had even an idea of the history of the place
they would be compelled to be silent out of respect

Only the spirits of the dead who walk the place
know and remember the horrors of the place
of the torments that were inflicted everyday
few alive can hear their screams
still echoing through the blanket of silence

Untold nameless voices cry out
they are doomed to suffer without reprieve
they will never know peace and justice
as their names are lost and forgotten
and those who carried out the evil die
without any earthly punishment for their sins

Even the remains will not speak of what happened
they are too ashamed of the past
forced to give some of their secrets
although some will never be discovered
