The French added limestone to their breads To make the loaf tip the scales And common practice was to put a bit Of sodium nitrite in the meat To make it stay red And appear fit to eat, Spices were used to Disguise the flavors of a few And food colors were so neat That made the foods attractive to eat, And just a bit of wax on fruit and vegies To make them shine and prolong shelf lives. Galvanize the can to keep the steel from rusting It's still called a can of tin. All these things go back a generation and more And others are in history's store If you should want to investigate. As example, in medicine, even more awaits. So it's not modern pollution to blame. No, its man's desire to sell for gain That which would have gone to waste Or might have been in short supply by fate. Do we benefit or will it cause our decline? As long as greed prevails over time, Mankind will continue to create pollution As his fiscal solution. Sorry. s
