Part 2. At what point do we call off the pursuit- -there surely would have been brilliant inventions left on the drawing board. Thank you so very much, Susan. Yes, I am not sure that dreams are entirely positive. Perhaps no one thing is unambiguously good or bad. That does not mean dreams have to be nightmares. Perhaps, maybe, that middle ground appears in the form of obsession...and ends in frustration or failure.
Part 1 That made me blink....then it made me think. I had never thought of dreams that way. What an enlightening poem. I've always thought of dreams in their beneficial onward and upward role- -but sometimes- perhaps often times- our dreams bring ruin and sorrow as we follow them throughout a lifetime better spent in other activities.
Much food for thought of the varied aspects of dreams ensnaring the young and enslaving the old. Perhaps in chasing dreams when young we do become enslaved bringing them to fruition as we age. Or perhaps the dream focus is on youthful pursuit that ultimately exploits the elderly and their loss of independence.
Thank you so much, Simone. I like both of your interpretations....a lot. There has always been something insidious about dreaming and about nurturing extreme optimism. I remember someone saying (and I paraphrase) that a dream is just one or two elements away from a nightmare.

Dreaming rosy dreams and wasting time can be more enslaving and oppressive than having no dreams at all. This is equally applicable to the young and the old. Our dreams shouldn't be beyond our capabilities. Dreams can lead a man to the pinnacles of success and sometimes to the nadir of defeat! Thank you for making me think of the darker side of dreams. You always give some food for thought!
