4'33' Comments

This is a shot in the dark. In the late 50's John Cage directed a pianist to enter the open air stage, sit, open the piano cover, sit still for several minutes, close the cover and leave the stage. His point was there was already music in the environment for all to listen to. He later cited the Hollywood street noise of people bustling, traffic, buzzing flies, etc. I wonder if anyone got his point in that first audience?
