This poem took me in so deeply I forgot there was fresh cup of coffee in front of me, by the time the poem released me, the cup was lukewarm, but that's OK because the poem was more stimulating than mere caffeine. Why? Because this poem presents an entire experience: It makes sense of range of feelings over time and discovers It's All One Experience and It's Ongoing. The speaker's inner being and the world's outer being merge in the course of the poem, not without tension and setbacks, but by the closing it all coheres, as Ezra Pound put it.
Once I had someone in my life who adored me as this spirit voice adores, and I let her go. She could not take adequate comfort, nor find sufficient requital, if she knew how long and how often that regret welled-up to haunt me. 'Streets that I chanced upon - you had just walked down them and vanished. And sometimes, in a shop, the mirrors were still dizzy with your presence and, startled, gave me back my too-sudden image' (Rilke) .
Brilliant write Leah as you connect with your lover, he can read your every thought, he is your inspiration and you feel happy when you are with him. You go so deep into your emotions that are released as you write that sets you free and as a reader of your amazing poems I can relate to everything that you write.
