36th July Poem by Sayeed Abubakar

36th July

Rating: 5.0

July was the longest month of the year
While we were fighting against the tyrant.
Like a monstress, she was devouring our young children.
Her belly turned into an inflated ballon.
We thought that her belly would burst any moment
And surely she would die.
But day after day, night after night, she continued
Eating human flesh and drinking human blood
And survived.
We thought that the night would never become day;
Darkess would last for ever
And our war against her would go futile.

But we swore, we would not let July go
Until victory comes.
So July stayed with us like a stopped watch
And like us, got wet with the blood of our freedom fighters.
At last, the monstress fell down on the 36th July
And the new month entered like a rising sun
Full of joy and freedom.
