Happy New Year, Bri Edwards! Everyone is happy and they are in election mood in Malaysia.
Yes, I am in total agreement with the sentiments of this poem. We MUST frequently count our blessings so that the virtue of gratitude shows we're worthy of them. Taking them for granted or seeing them as an entitlement are both hard-headed, misguided reactions. But the list of huge problems in the rest of the world made me cringe, people are so helpless and cannot change what often strikes them as the Hand of Fate. I was reminded of your other poem in which you withdraw from the dailiness of your life to consider the needs of others and make out checks to provide some relief. Those are the two things we can do: Count our blessings, and offer charity. Fitzgerald's rubai No.73: AH, LOVE! COULD THOU AND I... RE-MOULD THIS SORRY SCHEME OF THINGS NEARER TO THE HEART'S DESIRE. If only that were possible, everyone could count their blessings on New Year's Eve, but instead we live in a vale of tears as you wrote. Gratitude and Charity must prevail.
