1+1=nothing Poem by D.A. Woods

1+1=nothing

I knew this girl who moved from far away,
every day I would go into town to watch her walk by.
Like long lost souls somewhere from the past,
It felt we were meant to be and forever last.

She hid behind her sunglasses,
so I couldn't see her glances,
I could stand for hours to feel her powers on me,
then she smiled,
I felt weak inside.

Then late one night outside,
she kissed me by the roadside,
she swore I was hers,
no matter what in life went before or what incurs.

We wrote our names on a wall down by the river,
I really thought those days and nights would last forever.
But it ended way too quick and way too soon,
I can still she her face when I close my eyes and smell her perfume.

Years passed by and and one night as I was walking home,
I couldn't find the wall because everything had all overgrown.
So I stopped and watched a street light burn out slow,
and I wonder what she is doing now?

If I had to make one call,
I would tell her I'd catch her fall,
and that we shouldn't be alone.
I'd love to say that's me home.

My memories are all mine,
and I will build a wicker man and put in all those things that me old before my time.
But the rain still pours down and holds me.

I'm out of time.
