Reading my poem 'Nobody and Somebody'
Bri suggested that I write about 1/2 and 1/2 nots
Of course he probably was kidding!
But it inspired me to twist the numeric a bit.

In this marriage my wife is apt to have some 50 and 100 dollar bills on hand, while I RARELY do. She has discouraged my tendency to be financially charitable, through the mail or on a sidewalk. (cont.)
In this marriage my wife has discouraged/mildly protested my tendency to share a little money with individuals and organizations. (cont.)
Savita, Perhaps I've arrived at Zero Balance? But, actually, I've always HAD quite enough, thank you very much. I've never been rich nor poor nor close to either for myself.
Thank you Bri for all your comments. May be the gap between 'have and have nots' would always be an unfulfilled dream. Life has a tendency to create its own zero balance for us. All we can remember is what we did for others and for ourselves. Just like what your wife did.
(cont.) ....'the haves and have-nots' which I think of as referring to people, some of whom have [ eg. lots of money ] and some don't have. Just 'now', googling, I found a piece about a 2013 TV drama series called 'The Haves and the Have Nots' bri : )
I sure don't recall what I said to you LONG AGO, at least not re the poem. But I doubt I'd have seriously suggested using the phrase '1/2 and 1/2 nots', but maybe I did. There IS an expression:
Ok, Savita, what is the sum of 8 + 8? Times up! NO! , not 88, or...........is it? bri ;) I came back here after 7 years.
'It has been the dream of mankind to........ create a homogeneous society.' Not all mankind. Some want to be 'the cream at the top' in the container-of-humans we call 'society'. ;)
I did not know: 'numeric noo͞-mĕr′ĭk, nyoo͞- noun A number or numeral. An abbreviated form of numerical expression. Any number, proper or improper fraction, or incommensurable ratio. The term also includes any imaginary expression like m + n√-1, where m and n are real numerics.' ;)
I've read again, nearly six years after my first comment. OF COURSE, I did NOT mean '1/2 Nots', my friend Savita. I meant '1/2 Knots'. Do you know about ropes? ? bri ;)
A delightful poem... thanks dear madam for sharing...10
Two negatives do create a positive in math.......but one negative with a positive do create a negative in maths but in real a person with negative thinking affected sometimes partially less time fully when he or she met with a positive thniker......Amazing creation a unique and tremendous work done.....liked it :)
Thank you Abhilasha for reading and commenting. So happy that you liked it. Wish you a happy holiday season and a happy New year.
I think you did a fantastic job with this one Savita, a very enjoyable read. Annette
Thank you Annette. Wish you a very Marry Christmas and a happy Ney year
the stanza which got my attention the most: It has been the dream of mankind to Close the gap between the 1/2 and 1/2 nots To create a homogeneous society. Sadly this wholesome dream floats in a world of fake Having no real consequence at stake. well, i'm sure it has been a 'dream' spoken of by some, and worked towards by a few, but overall, due to apathy, impatience, difficulty, immensity, and/or frustration, the 'dream' has never (in modern times at least) become a reality. and some, including me, would say: the dream is unrealistic, some who HAVE lots of material 'things' are no happier (and maybe less happy) than some who HAVE little, and/or: (poking fun at God) God did not make people equal. let Her decide what is best! AND i sometimes tell myself that if people are feeling TOO OPPRESSED or TOO much like 1/2-nots, they can kill themselves and hope they are not jumping from the frying pan into the fire. thanks for sharing. math skills not needed here! bri :)
Thanks Bri for your comment. Your reflections bring to light many more thoughts.
Many read what you write, They just all don't leave a comment. If I had to survive by comments, I'd have starved, a long time ago.. iip Just keep on keeping on 👣👣
Thanks Is it poetry. Forget the comments I am just trying to survive the writing. It doesn't come easy when memory starts to slip. Thanks for the assurance that many read what I write. So thankful to all my readers.
I think the above is the best writing I've read from my friend James Mclain. ;) 'at a boy, James. bri ;)
James, formerly 'Is It Poetry' on PH, has, it seems, had a serious life/mind change in the last few years, making his poetry and use of English 'much better'. Maybe now he earns tons of money with his poetry? ? ;)) bri
(cont.) Strangely (to me) , my wife says she watched an elderly woman, in a CA downtown. retrieving recyclable containers from a trash bin and gave her a 50 dollar bill because my wife had no smaller bills with her.
