Grateful to you, dear poet. But I would like it otherwise.
All religions practice a lot of funeral and post-mortem rituals. And some annual repetitive rituals too. I don't believe in any of them. Once dead, one is dead and gone. Nothing remains. No soul, no punarjanmam (re-birth) .. Nothing!
That's true selflessness. You will always be remembered by those who read your writings. But then even I wish my kids don't think of me often if I die. They should be happy always.Just on ocassions is enough.
Death is a full stop. Not a comma or a semicolon. So, there it should end.
"Poet Kingsley Egbukole wrote on 07 October 2023 A beautiful poem full of humility. But I am sure you will be remembered by your poet friends and colleagues for your wonderful contributions to poetry". Thank you dear poet
A beautiful poem full of humility. But I am sure you will be remembered by your poet friends and colleagues for your wonderful contributions to poetry.
I may OR may NOT 'remember YOU. I may not remember ME! ! ! bri : )
5 ***** I wonder if Unnikrishnan is (truthfully) speaking of himself OR speaking for some 'unknown ascetic'. Hmm?
I am ascetic, true, Bri. But I yearn to complete my life giving least trouble, disturbance to anyone, including my wife and daughter.
(cont.) I WOULD NOT want anyone be 'bothered'/inconvenienced/'saddened', ..BUT I'd LIKE to be Remembered! ! : ) bri
THIS 'sounds' interesting: 'That no rituals to follow, Never ever remember me, ' I, Bri, wish from my daughter et al, 'No Rituals', .....but, if possible, I'd ACCEPT Ice Cream, left wherever my bones may be lying. (cont.)
'It is said that the most desirable boon to ask from the Almighty is 'Aanayasena Maranam, Vina Dainyena Jeevanam'. This means one's life may be without deprivation-related sorrow and one's death to happen without much suffering.'
Unnikrishnan, I looked but don't/didn't SEE a comment from me. 'as·cet·ic /əˈsedik/ noun plural noun: ascetics a person who practices severe self-discipline and abstention. Similar: abstainer recluse hermit solitary anchorite anchoress desert saint celibate puritan'
'Not all died thus'. By the time you published this poem, you befriended Immortality.
I have shared a translation of this poem in Malayalam on PoemHunter. I invite those poets who read Malayalam to take a look. Thank you

Dear Unni Ji, I wonder how did I miss this poigant poem! I totally agree with the remarks of poetess Noshen that you have made a mark and left some timeless works to be remebered for ever! Don't forget that you have been rightly honoured here in this world.
For I have lived an Ordinary life, Done nothing to be Remembered for....Appreciated the humble expression of an ecxcellent poet and a very down to the earth person!

A beautiful poem so deeply touching. Your humility and great poetry will always be remembered.
I am ever grateful to you Rose Marie, ever obliged.
I well appreciate the philosophy of this piece, a note of humility rings through. The poet's acceptance of the fact that he had done nothing worth remembering, therefore never to be celebrated depict the the fact
Thank you, dear poet. Biologically, nothing remains after one's death. That is the fact and I want it thus.
