Without thinking about the contents much, i just love the sound of it...
I am sure this poem is inspired by his First Love 'Constance MacLean' and his wife 'Parisienne Germaine Bougeoin' and he tried to compare the two. Wise thoughts comes only towards the END.
The poem is very open-minded; the question at the end may seem obvious or easy but it is that which makes the poem so different. It allows readers to learn more about themselves and their values and priorities..

Moreover, I totally agree with the precise remark of esteemed poet P N D Nair that marriage is a sweet responsibility in spite of multiple demands, unexpected feuds, difference of opinions, etc etc. One may deliberately accept the second option.
Which of the two would you choose, I wonder, The stolid saint or the sparkling sinner? The choice is up to me but I would chose the later though there is challenge and greater risk.
