I am sure this poem is inspired by his First Love 'Constance MacLean' and his wife 'Parisienne Germaine Bougeoin' and he tried to compare the two. Wise thoughts comes only towards the END.

The poem is very open-minded; the question at the end may seem obvious or easy but it is that which makes the poem so different. It allows readers to learn more about themselves and their values and priorities..

Which of the two would you choose, I wonder, The stolid saint or the sparkling sinner? The choice is up to me but I would chose the later though there is challenge and greater risk.

I once had a book of his poetry. He was a part of the Yukon Gold Rush and many of his poems tell of that time.

The choice is very easy. Marriage has certain purpose which I am sure a saint cannot fulfill
