JOBY JOHN Quotes

Poetry is the unexpressed emotion lost in the expression.

Incarnation is the visible sign of the kenotic love of God revealed to the entire human beings. God loved us so much and therefore our human nature has got participation in the divine nature without confusion or separation through the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the second person in the Trinity and thereby salvation.

Human beings are always attracted with the centripetal kenotic love of God. The potentiality to grow in the love of God is already inbuilt in each human being, because they are created by God. Therefore the ultimate end of human being is God. St Augustine also says the same in his epoch making work Confession. Because of this inbuilt potentiality human being has to respond to the divine love out of his/her free will. This divine element makes him capable of going beyond the physical realm. God wants the human beings to have a perfect communion with Him. One finds meaning in one's life only when one starts to respond to the centripetal kenotic love of God.

Where do we experience the kenotic love of God? It is in the Eucharist. Eucharist is the gift par excellence that Church received from Christ. Holy Eucharist ascends the human soul to the salvific mystery. It is a mystery, because each one of us takes part in the same. Since Eucharist is the celebration of Christ's redemptive work it transcends all times and aims at union with God.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." (John 3: 16) As if infants, we repeat the question, "God! Are you there? Do you love us? How much do you love us? " What is already revealed to us cannot be realized without the help of God, because we are limited beings in this temporal world. How does God address this question? In the entire Bible we come across the recurring images of love. The Love of God is made visible through his creation and reached its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Incarnation is the visible sign of the kenotic love of God revealed to the entire human beings. God loved us so much and therefore our human nature has got participation in the divine nature without confusion or separation through the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the second person in the Trinity and thereby salvation. But the fragile human beings could not live in Divine Love steadily. Therefore each time when we do sin we close ourselves to God. Sin is nothing but our reluctance to accept the love of God fulfilled in the person Jesus Christ. In Luke chapter 15 verses from 11 to24 we read, Jesus explaining the need of a converted heart to realize the love of God in the parable of the prodigal son. Just as if the prodigal son, many times we are fascinated with illusory freedom and abandon the real freedom coming from our Heavenly Father. Yes, sin is the refusal of God's covenantal love and thereby we lose relation with ourselves, nature and the fellow human beings. We never realize how stealthily sin creps into our life. Here also we face difficulty in understanding the concept of sin, whether it is from outside or inside. Sin does not come from outside but inside, because if it is from outside it would be the violation of the free will, and therefore the responsibility never belongs to us. There may be external factors that influence our choice. These aspects are well explained in the parable of the prodigal son. It is out of his free will he closed himself to his father. His eyes were opened only when he ate the husk the pigs used to eat. At that moment he remembered the Love of his father and decided to return home. What was the cause behind this firm decision? I would prefer to say that it is because of the love of his father. The fatherly love or the centrifugal force of the love of the father made a total change of the heart of the prodigal son. Yes, "metanoia' happened to his heart. Immediately he began his journey towards his father. What was in the mind of the prodigal son on his journey towards his father? It may not be about his sin, but the memoirs of love. Each confession is a call to continue this pilgrimage to divine love, because with baptism the potentiality of metanoia is already inscribed in the hearts of the Human beings. The confessional is the place where we continue this pilgrimage. This pilgrimage is out of the zeal to reach the centrifugal kenotic love of God. Confessional is a place of consolation, because Divine love is present there as a centrifugal force. Everyone is aware that God loves. When a person puts a veil diligently over his eye, the love of God becomes absent for that person. Even then the warmth and rays of the love of God inspire him to remove the veil. Here the person has to use his free will to remove the veil to experience the warmth of the love of God. This is why the rush to the confessional is the result of the centrifugal force of the kenotic love of God and a person's response to the same. Dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ! Each confession is the realization that we have to respond to the love of God little more. That is why Jesus teaches us the need of reconciliation to experience the Love of God. "So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go: first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift. (Mt 5: 23-24) .Therefore it is the sacrament of forgiveness, conversion and penance. All these dimensions meet in one point- Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of divine revelation of the kenotic love of God, the centrifugal force of Christian Faith. God expressed His love to the world by sending His only Son. Each confession is a journey to this Omega point, so that we have eternal life. Dear brothers and sisters, we are in the season of Great Lent. It is the best time for us to grow in the love of God. Let us make use of every second in our life in growing towards the love of God and thereby we may increase in faith and the life of God.
