I grew up in the North East of England and worked primarily in the Civil Service, but also had a spell as a taxi driver and lastly in a call centre for a bank. Now retired and filling in my time with writing songs, poems and lately books about Vikings. I am married to Hazel, we have 4 children and 8 grand children (at the last count) . I can unequivocally state that I play some very fine blues guitar and am a devoted student of that genre, but also appreciate all the great composers of popular music, especially the acknowledged masters of the American Songbook.
They walked just here, the lovers,
On the path by the dual carriageway
And their footsteps slowed along Chester Road,
From the Hastings Hill estate.
...
Precious moments gone forever
Tender words all left unsaid
Like a promise that was broken
Or a poem left unread.
...
People talkin' about nothin'
Keep on beatin' their gums.
If you haven't got somethin' worth sayin'
Silence is golden chum.
...
The tired Sun in his lonely sky
Must forever strive
To brush the darkness ahead away,
Though it gathers in behind.
...
You can't forget your first love,
First love is always true.
The first time that you fall in love
Those feelings are brand new.
