Gamson Jr Mawallil Quijano of Sulu is a registered Radiologic Technologist who works in Doha, Qatar. He is a contributor in Mindanawon Abroad of MindaNews through a column "Tausug In Doha." He has published essays, poems, photo stories, and tarasul (Tausug form of poetry) in MindaNews, Mindanao Examiner, The Zamboanga Post, Philippine Muslim Today, The Ranao Star, Mindanao Times, Edge Davao, Mindanao Today, and Mindanao Post. Three of his poems, "Magma, " "Twilight, " and "Northern Lights, " have been published in Poetry 365 by RDW World Publisher. His poems entitled "Lupa' Sug, Hula' Kalasahan (Sulu, My Beloved Homeland) , " "Ina, '" "Sawa Bulan (Supermoon) , " "Lasa Ku Mag-anud Masi Ha Dugu' (In My Blood My Love Constantly Flows) " were included in the third and fourth volumes of the Bangsamoro Literary Review (BLR) . Moreover, his literary piece entitled 'The Storm and the Old Mango Tree, ' featured as the inaugural and sole piece from a Tausug in Sulu in the 'IQRA: Stories of the Bangsamoro' column, published in Volume 1, No.6 edition of MERDEKA: The Official Publication of the Bangsamoro Information Office of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. His tarasul entitled "Ubat Haram Mayta' Subay Natu' Tuud Pu'puun Tinggalan" won a Grand Champion during the 1st Literary Arts Tarasul Online Contest of the Municipality of Talipao, Sulu on the occasion of 2021 Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week. Likewise, he had two literary pieces entitled "Bangsa Tausug: Pomp and Revelry" and "My Alif-Ba'-Ta' Sojourn with Ina' Maas, " accepted for oral presentation at the International Conference on Bangsamoro Literature 2022, held on September 29-30,2022 at the Park Inn Hotel, Lanang, Davao City, organized by the University of Southeastern Philippines. The literary piece "My Alif-Ba'-Ta' Sojourn with Ina' Maas, " was included in the PANUMTUMAN: Anthology of 21st Century Bangsamoro Literature, edited by Gutierrez ‘Teng' Mangansakan II. He was also selected as a writing fellow for the 3rd Pagadian Writer's Workshop held virtually on August 20-21,2023. Five of his photo stories about Sulu (Sulu By The Shore, August 9,2022; Children Of The Sea, May 24,2023; Farewell Summer, June 11,2023; Sulu's True Color, June 12,2023; and Resourceful, June 27,2025) were featured online and in print by the 125-year-old extant English-language newspaper in the Philippines, The Manila Times. The Peninsula Qatar, an English-language daily newspaper published from Doha, featured his photos of the Sunrise and Skyline in Qatar on January 17 and May 5,2022. The Panitikan.ph, a project of the UP Institute of Creative Writing and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, on its Facebook page, featured his following poems: "Kwento, " September 13,2024; "Electric Post, " October 04,2024; "Thank You, Teachers, " October 07,2024; and "Veranda, " November 20,2024. An international book titled HAIKU STRINGS, edited by Hassane Yarti and Niamat Elhamri, published by Barcelona Literary Publishing, includes on page 12 his four Haikus translated into Arabic, in an anthology. He had his works entitled: O EP DALAWANG IKAW, STRATEGIST, BITUÍN, FAMILY, MALAYÒ, BULAKLÁK, DAYANG KU, A WEARY WORLD, AYUDA, HUWAG MANIIL, FLOWERS, LOVE FOR NATURE, SACRIFICE, CONTENTMENT, MISERY, JANJI' LANGUG-LANGUG, KABA'-KABA', PAUPAHANG-SILID, BÙD TUMANTANGIS, NANGADDAY, SUN, and BE A LEADER, written in English, Filipino, and Basaha Sug included in the "LITERARY TUESDAY" edition of the Cordillera-based Mountain Beacon's Facebook page. Most of his poems written in Bahasa Sug were translated into English by Warina Sushil A. Jukuy, his writing mentor. He belongs to the Tulawie Clan of Sulu. He is one of the great-grandchildren of Mohammad Tulawie, one of the greatest Tausug Muslim pioneer educators who made the Tausugs realized the value of education during his time.
