Dr Anish Mathew John Poems

(A personal one depicting the hardships endured by me and my family after being struck hard by a deluge in Chennai, a second time on Dec 02,2015 after the first instance on Oct 27,2005.)

Content a life, we led thus far
Spouse, my boy and our small dreams
...

Born were I and you apart
Never did know so where we were
And time came now for us to know
That chosen were we for being one.
...

Pal you are, your shoulders strong
A bolster strong, my head to rest
To console, to pat, to give a hug
You’re always there an all life mate.
...

(A reflection of a child standing on the beach after losing his parents. This was written after the Tsunami had struck the southern coastal region of India in 2005)

Castles we mounted together all eve
Soaked my feet, she teased me wet
...

(A tribute to my god given life partner)

She's my love, she's my life
So dear to me, she's my wife
...

(A note on the Christmas Star that had guided the Vikings to Jesus.)

Oh my dear! You wonder star
So bright you shine all day and night
...

(A reflection of the merciless killings in Mumbai by terrorists on 26/11)

A day it came a day it went
Pain and cry all left in grief
...

(A personal one depicting the hardships endured by me and my family after being struck hard by a deluge in Chennai, India on Oct 27,2005. My life had turned upside down with just our lives alone spared. This is just what I had gone through then.)

Content a life, we led thus far
My spouse, my boy and our small dreams
...

(A loud cry to the Heavenly Father.)

Father you are to all on earth
Plans you make to mould our birth
...

(My poem gifted to Benedict XVI, The Pope in the month of April this year (2010) via a Priest in India who had attended a conference in Rome)

Father he is to all of us
Friend he is and always there
...

(A poem on 9/11 written on the eve of that eventful day. This poem showcases the twin towers as twin brothers talking to us and comforting us after their demise, recollecting fond memories of love, prosperity and martyrdom. You’ll find the brothers consoling us amidst their own unimaginable pain.)

Life we got in hands of wight
Took we birth as charming twins
...

12 July, it was the day
The terrible day, I nod in fear
Drew her breath in last one sigh
Lo, was gone my mom most dear
...

Never would we blessed this great
Wish such a wonder child you dear
Your cries, your smiles and all your tricks
All makes us great with pride abound.

The Quandary 2

(A personal one depicting the hardships endured by me and my family after being struck hard by a deluge in Chennai, a second time on Dec 02,2015 after the first instance on Oct 27,2005.)

Content a life, we led thus far
Spouse, my boy and our small dreams
Life so meek was all that bliss
Until it struck one time again.

Rained, it poured and roared all time
Showered all day for floods to rise
Found our home, with water all in
Shocked were we, why now again?

Lo! I see Chris' favorite ball
It nods, it shakes, it waves at me
My feet I moved, ripples it forced
Jiggles again, it shows dismay.

Moved I forth, from room to room
Saw things soaked with water all black
My doors swelled up, it tried its best
To beat the cold, but all in vain.

All things small, toys and bricks
And all things big, stove to fridge
All got socked full length immersed
For I could gape and do little.

Water it rose, up up all day
Time petite to wrap our sack
Toiled we three to find dry stuff
And move upstairs to find solace.

Lights were down, darkness filled
Huddled we close, as one great team
Strong at heart my wife was brave
Shone my son, his valor all high.

Days it passed, hours stood still
So strong the currents, the force of floods
A mind so strong, our body so frail
Alas, we came to dry land fields.

The day ushered, zephyr it blew
Kind my pal, he got good news
Found a pass to board a train
Happy we heard, the whistle went off.
