David Shoestring Biography

After a long absence from the site I will be adding a few verses and poems, some of which feature in my new book - 'Smoke... Gets in Your Eyes' - a book of Birmingham history, tales, poems and memoir. I hope to publish a small anthology in the new year. I like the idea of using poems which add a third or even a fourth dimension to a two-dimensional photo or painting, taking the reader inside the picture, and sometimes back in time. The poems and verses are informal and unstructured. Instead, I try to input verbal rhythms and speech patterns to tell stories or to make comments about current events, political topics and day to day happenings. Some are humorous; some sarcastic; some are more poignant and sad …… - Much of my early life was spent living in Handsworth, a suburb of Birmingham in the UK, and have since lived in a variety of locations varying from the water's edge to bleak moorland; from villages to riot-torn Handsworth.
