Stained

Joy was our essence
Happiness, our prerogative
Halcyon was where we sheltered

Till "life" happened to us
Our leaves of mirth swiftly paled
Amidst a winter of beggary

And our radical innocence switched,
for perverted consciousness

Life for us is a massive stain
Had we known
We would have stayed clean,
of it.
