Abid Anwar is a poet, essayist, literary critic and lyricist of Bangladesh. As a poet and writer (authoring 18 books by now) he received several awards and honors, including the Bangla Academy Literary Award, President’s Medal, Silver Jubilee of Independence Award (Syed Nazrul Islam Medal) , Sukumar Ray Literary Award, Writers Association Award, and Shreepur Sahittya Parishad Literary Award, Honorary Membership in the National Journalism Scholarship Society of America, etc. For programs based on his English scripts, Bangladesh Betar (Radio Bangladesh) received the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association International Award twice in 2005 and 2008. He worked as editor and dissemination manager in many international organizations, including ICDDR, B, Winrock International, Chechi & Co (USAID-affiliated) and SAIC.
